SRINAGAR, Nov 17: A few mischief mongers are trying to create confusion about the forthcoming winter break for schools in Kashmir zone. These people are circulating last year's order declaring that schools in the winter zone of the State would close on November 24 and would reopen in February next year.
Sources said that some people want schools to close early so that they can move out from the Valley towards warmer places. "Most teachers working in Government schools are the kith and kin of influential bureaucrats and politicians, who have already shifted to summer capital Jammu, and they want their kith and kin to join them," sources added.
The Xerox copy of the order, dated 14/11/2014 which is duly signed by the former Secretary Education Nirmal Singh, has been making rounds on the What’sapp and social media for the past many days. The order is being sent to scribes working with various news organizations to mislead them. However, the ploy of the people behind the move has not worked so far as one can easily make out that its last year's order which was issued in a hurry to prevent students from attending classes in the flood hit buildings.
Sources revealed that Education Minister Naeem Akther is under pressure to declare the winter break for schools but "till now he has not succumbed," insiders added.
Pertinently, since the day Naeem Akther has taken over the as the Education Minister he has been projecting himself as one of the most competent man in the Council of Ministers. Soon after taking over his new assignment he had announced that he would revolutionize the Education sector in Jammu and Kashmir and would ensure that deadwood is chopped off so that students don't suffer.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "When Akther will declare winter vacation for schools in Kashmir region is a litmus test for him as many people still believe that climate in the Valley is not that cold and winter vacation can be deferred, but on the other hand Education Minister is under tremendous pressure from people around him to close the schools."
"If Akther buckles under pressure it would prove that he is no better than his predecessors. Akther cannot keep the schools open for long as most educational institutions in the Valley don't have any heating facility," he said. "Mere rhetoric is not going to help Akther's cause for keeping schools open as he has to move an extra mile and has to ensure that proper heating arrangements are made for the students."
Meanwhile, an insider revealed that last year's order declaring winter vacation early was circulated by a few people to generate a debate about closing the schools well in advance but the move backfired as the scribes and the news organizations didn't pay any attention towards it. "Poor teachers who want an early break have been left with no other option other than to continue till sun shines in the Valley," said a politician.
