Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 17: The Jammu Youth Forum (JYF) has expressed serious concern over the prevailing mess in the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), University of Jammu (JU) at the behest of Vice-Chancellor Prof Ramji Dass Sharma.
Addressing a press conference here today, JYF University President Vikram Kumar said, "The functioning of the DDE is totally paralyzed owing to unusual interference of the Vice-Chancellor as the senior professors are not made accountable for their responsibilities, due to which students are facing hardships."
He further said that contractual teachers for essential subjects had not been engaged by the University whereas; arrangement was made for unnecessary teachings subjects. "The regular professors in DDE are neither evaluating Assignments not preparing study material hence raising serious questions over their very existence." He added that staff has been appointed for Women Study Centre where there was no work but when it came to DDE, the University authorities cited 'no requirement'.
"The University has taken over a sum of rupees one crore from DDE Fund which has been accumulated for the welfare of the DDE students but they are being denied services which is unjust," he questioned.
He demanded that audit be done in DDE to check out the utility and services been rendered by the senior professors as UGC guidelines clearly state that at least 16 hours of teaching work should be done by the teachers in addition to one hour of research work but, in DDE all the teachers were violating this norm hence audit was required to ascertain the fact.
The JYF questioned the silence of Governor (Chancellor of the University) over this matter and asked him to intervene to prove his worth as well other it would be assumed that he was no more interested in the affairs of the University. Among those who were present in the press-conference included, Gurpreet Singh, Jasmeet Singh, and Lalit Kumar.
