Despite HC direction, Agri land conversion goes on unabated | | | Arun Kumar Early Times Report Kathua, Jan 24: A high Court direction notwithstanding, the conversion of agriculture land goes on unabated in Jammu Kashmir as property dealers make a fortune. The PIL had sought directions against conversion of agriculture land. But the conversion goes on in district kathua in violation of various laws. A case has come to fore at village Khokhyal wherein 18 kanals fertile land is being converted into commercial plots land and sold at high rate. "District administration that talks about constitution of action committee against conversation of land would be allegedly in papers than ground," Pritam Singh, a poor farmer said. Pritam's land has been forcibly purchased by property dealers at low rates and is being sold at high rate in plots. He accused the property dealers of intimidating the land owners to sell the land at low rates. Pritam said Property dealers belonging to political parties assure the farmers to adjust their children in government sector. He sought stringent inquiry against such property dealers and Revenue officials who act like mediators to violate the HC's direction for huge sweeteners. Rajinder Kumar, another Farmer, said the violation is openly spearheaded by property dealers with full political as well as Revenue Department's patronage. Kumar said plinths are being constructed and expressed concern over conversation of agriculture land that would harm environment, fertility of remaining land and food crisis in days to come. DDC Kathua Ramesh Kumar said an action committee had been constituted to check the conversion. He assured action against any conversion. |
