Big sharks' untouched in CAPD, let Raj Bhawan act against them | | |
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 24: With successive state governments failing to take action against 'sharks' in CAPD, which is alleged to have earned the dubious distinction of 'shielding' the corrupt, the tainted officers continue to indulge in malpractices. While three CAPD officials had their names in the list of 'deadwood' that was released by the government a few months back, the actual 'big sharks' had remained untouched. The second list of the corrupt state officials was yet to see the light of the day. Reason: The government succumbs to the pressure of these corrupt and influential CAPD officials. Instead of taking legal action against them, 'corrupt' CAPD officials were given choice postings in Jammu, while one officer, who was allegedly involved in a multi-crore scam at Rajouri, was given a prime posting at Kathua, CAPD sources alleged. Sources alleged that even inquiries against these officials were moving at snail's pace. They were really influential people, sources said. The Crime Branch of state police was also probing into the CAPD scams, sources informed. Sources said in the absence of the elected government, where there were many to save them, the Raj Bhawan "needs to summon the files of CAPD scams and punish the guilty". "In case, Raj Bhavan does not act against them, they are likely to remain unpunished," the sources added. By punishing the allegedly tainted CAPD officials, Raj Bhavan could set an example that the corrupt would not be spared. Sources revealed that a tainted CAPD official, who enjoys proximity with the higher authorities, was given prize postings one after the other even as FIR No 19/2012 was registered against him by police during his posting at Sungri-Chasana. He is to retire by the end of this year. "It has also been observed that some senior CAPD officials adjust their own men at important positions under them so that their secrets are not leaked," sources alleged, saying that under the prevailing circumstances, there could be no transparency in the department. |
