People of Lohidar protest for non release of wages
10 years of MGNREGA in India

Kishtwar, Feb 4: As nation celebrates the successful completion of 10 years of MGNREGA, the inhabitants of Panchayat Lohidar and its adjoining areas today held strong protest against the Rural Development Department and block Kishtwar-Chatroo road and Dadpath of Mughal Maidan blocked over non release of wages to job card holders against the works done in March 2015.
As per the details available with "Early Times", the job card holders hailing from various areas falling under newly created Mughal Maidan block of Rural Development Department today assembled at Dadpath and held a strong protest against the Junior Engineer and other officials of the department for their failure in preparing the bills against the work done by the poor job card holders under centrally sponsored scheme. They added that despite the lapse of nearly one year the officials had not released the wages.
When contacted Sub Divisional Magistrate Chatroo Masood Ahmed Qazi confirmed that some of the job card holders held a protest against the non release of MGNREGA payments. He added after hearing about the protest, he directed Tehsildar Mughal Maidan Sheetal Sharma and Block Development Officer Mohsin Ahanger to visit the spot and talk with the agitating people. He said that after intervention of the Sub Divisional Administration, the issue was settled. He said that after assurance from concerned Tehsildar and BDO, the angry protestors lift the road blockade. He said that the BDO has been asked to send a detail report as to why the payments are still pending to these job card holders. He said that on public complaint, the concerned JE has been replaced with new JE namely Shabir Ahmed Sheikh and assured that all the pending MGNREGA wages in respect of Panchayat Lohidar A will be cleared in next few days. He said that in order to satisfy the agitating people and to verified the claims of job card holders that less payments were made by the officials compared to work done, the concerned officials has been directed to re-verify the specification of work done strictly in accordance with the guidelines set in MGNREGA. It is pertinent to mention that there is liability of corers of rupees under MGNREGA in various blocks of Kishtwar District and people from different areas of the District day in and day out are approaching various quarters for early clearance of the pending wages. They have now sought intervention of the the Governor in the matter.
