Poonch, Apr 23 : Notwithstanding the tall claims of Government that tourism sector is being given preference to boost the economy of state, Mendhar town in this frontier district still sans basic tourism infra structure and even has no recreational park for locals.
Locals claimed that situated in the heart of district Mendhar town is having natural beauty terrains, picturesque view points and also believed if this town is developed it will become one of the best tourist places in the state.
They however alleged that the beautiful place has always been neglected by successive government and no government has ever thought of developing tourism sector in this town despite having plenty of natural scenic places all around.
"Catering a populace over 1.5 lakh the town even has no public park where children can play or people go for a morning or evening walk, they complained, adding, "instead the town witnesses heaps of garbage and filth at many places which smudges the glory of the nature's bounty - the beautiful town."
Locals alleged that during election time politicians from various political parties doled out big promises but when they were declared elected and got their goals accomplished, they in routine forget all promises they had made with the public.
Chairman Mendhar Youth Club, Advocate Nadeem Khan has urged government that there are many places in Mendhar which if developed can become most popular tourist destinations on map of state's tourism and certainly will benefit the state economy to a larger extent.
Mr Khan also appealed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti who holds the charge of Tourism Ministry to concede to the demands of the people of Poonch and start tourism activities besides sanctioning a public park in Mendhar town.
