Farooq's sermons on 'Kashmiris love for Pakistan' not based on facts

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 23: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has committed a mistake by painting people of Kashmir as lovers of Pakistan. Yes, people have demonstrated and displayed, over the years pro-Pak feelings. These feelings were on the surface when Farooq Abdullah headed the Government three times. Pro-Pakistan sentiments were there when Farooq's father, Sheikh Abdullah ruled the state like an unchallenged politician. Such feelings were there when Farooq Abdullah's son, Omar Abdullah ruled for six years.
And the first sermon from Farooq Abdullah is: "Kashmiris love Pakistan and economic packages are not going to change that. India has spent a lot of money in Kashmir but they have not been able to take out Pakistan from the hearts of Kashmiri people."
If a situation is born in which India willingly handover Kashmir to Pakistan with the condition that people in the valley will have the option to remain in Pakistan or settle in India. If not all the 69 lakh but at least 60 lakh Kashmiris will opt for settling in India. This has been proved in 1947 when people had the choice and the chance to migrate to Pakistan they did not except for a people whose number can be counted on finger tips.People in Kashmir know that liberalism, true democratic culture and tolerance of various faiths are essence of Indian culture and civilization.
Yes, if people in Kashmir display pro-Pakistan sentiments they do so to extract more money from New Delhi. If people want that Article 370 of the Constitution of India should neither be diluted nor scrapped it is all out of the misconception that once Article 370 was revoked successive Governments in India will not grant any special treatment to Jammu and Kashmir.
Majority of people know that once they stop chanting pro-Pakistan slogans they would not be given funds from New Delhi. They know that more that 80 per cent plan and non-plan activities in Jammu and Kashmir were being funded by the centre, including the wages for the employees.
Majority of people in the valley know that if the region of Jammu is receiving a raw deal as compared to the Kashmir region it is because majority of people in the region of Jammu are nationalists.
Another sermon from Farooq Abdullah seems to be based to reality and on his experience as a politician and as Chief Minister. Referring to the recent controversy at Srinagar's National Institute of Technology. Farooq Abdullah has said "People in Delhi complain that Kashmiri people, despite so many economic packages, keep loving Pakistan. I tell them Kashmiris will take the money and still keep following their heart."
Yet another sermon from Farooq should make New Delhi trust him. He has said India and Pakistan should sort out their issues while emphasising that the status quo on Kashmir issue would remain intact.
Farooq has called the removal of an Army bunker from Handwara town in north Kashmir a welcome step. "Most of the bunkers should go," he has said.
The NC president said the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) should also be reviewed and removed from areas wherever it was not needed. Well as former Chief Minister and Union Minister Farooq was supposed to know that the nod from top Army functionaries was necessary before the centre either removed AFSPA phase wise or revoked it from two districts. He raised the question that why wasn't AFSPA implemented in Chhattisgarh,
Well Farooq Should know that Chhattisgarh does not kiss the border with Pakistan from where India has been teased and troubled by Pakistan supported insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir. Yes, if the Army functionaries and the Defence Ministry give their nod let the AFSPA be revoked from the entire state. If the two oppose it the Government has to respect the wish of the Army.
