Municipal Deptt facing shortage of garbage carriers, dumping station 4/23/2016 10:44:55 PM Early Times Report Udhampur, Apr 23: With countable garbage carrier (vehicles) and without proper storage station, the Municipal Committee Udhampur is facing wrath of local residents who are alleging the committee has failed to maintain cleanliness in the city besides managing the dumping of various seizure during the anti encroachment drives. Amid nationwide cleanliness drive Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Municipal Committee Udhampur has utterly failed to shoulder its key responsibility to maintain cleanliness within the municipal limits courtesy lacking the resources be it the load carriers or the dumping station. According to the sources, the Municipality has identified a place for dumping waste material treatment plant at Mand in Udhampur some month ago but has failed to start the work related with project till date while it has also not tried to handle the crisis on adhoc basis/ temporary arrangement and instead it has started dumping waste in Tawi river near Jekhani amid locals' protest. When contacted K K Chalotra CEO Udhampur Municipality admittingly said that the department is ailing due to the issues realted to temporary dumping station for solid waste material and using conventional means i.e. load carriers like tippers and autos to lift garbage. "Even ARTO udhampur also has rejected the fitness of garbage vehicles owing to bad conditions of vehicles," he said that we have taken up the matter of procurement of new autos and tippers to lift the garbage with higher authorities but in till date it has not been concede to. He at the same time demanded a temporary site for dumping station atleast five to six kanal till the permanent solution is sought.
