Dirty water supply by PHE spreads diseases in Kathua

Kathua, Apr 25: Through ' Mann Ki Baat' aired programme PM Narendra Modi directed and laid stress to provide clean drinking water to people in entire country but PHE department Kathua would express non-compliance to his direction and provides dirty/unhygienic water supply in entire district Kathua resulting diseases and diarrhea to minors.
A large number of people hailing from ward no 17 Kathua already raised voice against dirty water supply whereas villagers hailing from Karroh today came into road and raised voice against Public Health Engineering Department PHE and demanded clean/ sufficient water supply in village Karroh. People have to use dirty water resulting skin infection and diarrhea among villagers and minors.
Anu Devi, a house wife, informed that people could not get water supply from last three months resulting pause in daily lives and affect domestic purposes. She informed that dirty and hygienic water being supplied once in a week which is insufficient even adds their sufferings. She said students could not be bathed for days.
Krishan Kumar, an elder said 7 thousand of population living in village Karroh and Nonal is being affected by shortage of PHE water supply. People carry water from Lakhanpur 6-7 km away from village through vehicles or on head. Kumar said the matter has been highlighted Panchayat members and concerned officers but all in vain that triggered resentment among villagers. He appealed DDC Kathua to intervene in the matter and restore sufficient/clean water supply in the village to mitigate the sufferings.
Headmaster of Government Middle School Karroh / MS ( Boys) Barwal informed that shortage of water supply affects sanitary purpose, drinking especially on Mid-day meal that could not be prepared without water supply. They said dirty water being spread skin disease.
Punjab Singh Sarpanch said the matter has been highlighted, insufficient water supply affects on animals, minors and domestic purposes. He informed that defunct Motor pumps and damaged pipes brought dirty water if PHE deptt. Releases water resulting skin diseases among minors. He appealed PHE minister Sham Lal Choudhary to visit the village and review the plight of thousands of people living in the village.
When contacted to XEn PHE, Sumit Puri, he discarded allegations leveled by large number of people who have been suffering from dirty water supply (irregular) and shortage of water supply to 7 thousand people for 3 months. He said regular and clean water supply is being provided. But at ground level, people are suffering and XEn might be unaware to all this water crisis.
