Early Times Report

doda, Apr 25: Following a massive public outcry against the implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) in Jammu and Kashmir, people here are up in arms against authorities for issuing ration card holder lists with huge errors and discrepancies. Along with other districts of the State where complaints about huge discrepancies in ration card lists with regard to NFSA implementation have been reported, massive discrepancies have also come to the fore in ration card holder lists compiled by the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD) in Bhaderwah and Doda.
According to locals, the lists are full of discrepancies with a large scale repetition of names; non-factual details in the income data whereas a number of dead people have been shown as alive and included in the list of ration card holders. "After checking it was found that the new lists do not correspond to the lists framed by the committees. It clearly exhibits that CAPD has mentioned details not mentioned by the committee and may have taken details from old lists or ration cards," alleged Advocate Tanveer Ahmned Dev of Bhaderwah town . Similarly, in other areas, large scale inaccuracies have been made in the list of ration card holders.Besides repetition of names and bringing alive the dead ones, CAPD has also committed grave mistakes in filling the details of income of people and in some cases wife has been mentioned in list as father of husband. Another social activist Mohd Ashraf Goni said as per the lists of Masjid Mohalla of Bhaderwah several deceased persons, have been shown as alive and beneficiaries for ration in some rural areas of Doda and Bhlessa . Gulam Nabi of Bharath Doda said that he has been shown in the list of another village creating confusion."Some employees have been sanctioned BPL ration cards and some BPL families were included in APL category. This we need to rectify and for that a redressal mechanism was constituted in the district," said Mohd Saleem Butt .
Meanwhile, sources in the department said the discrepancies were found in lists across the district but they are correcting the same . Assistant Director (AD) CAPD Doda Mohd Syed when contacted asked the people not to worry as the lists issued so far are for the purpose of checking their veracity. "There is provision for correcting the mistakes. We have already started the process of removing the faults and preparing the final lists which will have correct and factual details," Syeed said.
