Minister promises to revive SRTC, modest MD concerned about employees' salary
4/27/2016 11:17:01 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 27: The revival of State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) continues to haunt the government. Successive transport ministers have promised a lot but when it comes to implementing the promises, they eat a humble pie.
An employee of the SRTC told Early Times that it was necessary to find out why the corporation died down. According to him, the ministers and bureaucrats get their workers and favourites adjusted in corporations as it is easy to do so. The corporations, he said, finally succumb to the pressure. "A corporation that is run by 10 employees gets 100 parasites. How can it withstand the pressure?"
He said there was need to change the appointment policy in corporations before their revival. Let the SSB appoint employees of corporations, he suggested.
The incumbent minister has promised 1000 buses to strengthen the corporation. But, where are the resources for such a big fleet, the minister alone knows.
The former minister had promised 300 buses but even that could not be done. The minister candidly admitted his failure and told the media that the plan had been shelved.
The managing director was modest while talking tomedia. He said the corporation was planning toad 12 buses to the existing fleet. "About 1000 buses, please talk to the minister," he told newsmen.
He said the corporation was running in loss and around Rs 3 Crore that various departments owe to the corporation was not being paid. "it is very difficult for us to manage the salary of our employees,' he said.
