Jammu, Apr 27: Tightening its noose on violators of the various provisions of the J&K Excise Act in entire Jammu division, the Excise Department sleuths today destroyed 1080 of Lahan (illicit liquor) during different raids in Kathua and Samba. According to official spokesperson, under the active supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu Mohammed Shahid Saleem, the Excise Team Kathua led by ETO, Sandeep Gupta and ETO Eradication Wing Jammu raided the Mirpurjaggu, Dholkhad, Upper Saktachak, Sounthlee, Sherpur, Ghati and Dhabwal areas of Kathua district. "One person namely Dharampal s/o Romal Chand of Sounthlee was arrested under Sec 48 of the J&K Excsie Act by the raiding team, he added. "More than 900 hundred kilo grams of Lahan, 70 bottles of illicit liquor made from Lahan, which is highly injurious to health, was recovered by the raiding team which was later destroyed by the team on spot, spokesperson said, adding, "one bootlegger namely Dharampal of Sounthlee was arrested under Sec 48 of the J&K Excsie Act by the excise team during raid. Meanwhile an Excise Team Samba under Susheel Bhat raided the Rundawa and Ramgarh Border and adjoining areas of Samba to arrest the menace of illicit distillation. "More than 180 hundred kilo grams of Lahan, 02 bottles of illicit liquor made from Lahan, was recovered which was later destroyed by the team on spot, he said. "During raids by the teams headed by ETO Kathua Sandeep Kumar, about 1,200 kg of Lahan was destroyed and 10 bottles of illicit liquor were also recovered, a spokesperson of Excise Department said. To check the menace of illicit distillation, bootlegging and smuggling of liquor, the Excise Department has intensified raids in villages of Kathua and Samba, they said.
