Early Times Report

Jammu, May 23: Much hue and cry of the government to equally develop tourism sector in Jammu gets deflated with the Tourism Department and Patnitop Development Authority (PDA) neglecting the overall development of Patnitop and its surroundings.
Patnitop is the only centrally located tourist spot in Jammu division which is worth visiting during summer by tourists from within and outside the State having become highly sought after tourist spot to escape sweltering heat and enjoy some cool and comfortable environment there.
While talking to Early Times correspondent, a tourist, Deepak Rajput who had come to Patnitop along with his family said that they were agog with happiness for coming to this widely advertised tourist spot but were simply depressed to see the inhospitable conditions prevailing in and around Patnitop with its circular road in deep shambles right from entry to exit having developed big potholes and broken spots . While driving on this road for which visitors pay entry fee, one misses the ambience of tourist spot like Patnitop and rather it appears on its face as totally an abandoned road giving the impression of far flung areas of Jammu awaiting hassle free road connectivity, they said, adding that similar is the deplorable condition of road connecting Sanasar from Patnitop with many tourists drop the idea of visiting Sanasar at the eleventh hour due to poor road connectivity.
Another tourist from outside the state, Rajesh Chauhaan who reached Patnitop after visiting Vaishnodevi , was aghast to find that there is no provision of public lavatory/wash room facility put in place by Tourism Department with tourists compelled to ease openly while strolling around Patnitop area making the condition of ladies and children more worse and miserable running helter skelter frantically in search of corners to ease themselves.
The sources informed Early Times that the some of the huts located in sporadic area of Patnitop are lying abandoned without any use
with most of others poorly maintained giving generally established impression that it is government accommodation in as much as these huts are without any fan facility needed during peak summer in the rooms and erratic water supply. A group of tourist informed that it is better to stay in private hotels in Patnitop well equipped with adequate facilities where one feels much comfortable to stay than in the accommodation arranged for the tourists by the Tourism Department suffering from stink and poor maintenance.
The sources informed that bad condition of circular road is afflicted with non availability of parking space with vehicles parked at both sides of the road making it difficult rather impossible for the pedestrians to walk freely. One of the tourists, who is morning walker, said that he had come for a week's time sojourn to update his physical health at Patnitop which is one of the oldest tourist spots of Jammu, further said, adding that the insensitivity of the Tourism Department can be visualised from the fact that it has no idea of the growing transport facility with the tourists thronging Patnitop along with cars and other available transport mode and sadly enough, the department, therefore, does not have any plan to create separate parking space at different points within Patnitop enabling tourists to atleast walk freely on the circular road presently lying in shambles since pretty long time.
The locals of Patnitop informed that Tourism Department and PDA no time to care and upgrade facilities for the comfort of tourists who are made to face the apathy of the department for inadequate facilities when they visit Patnitop which is also visited by many top officers whom the officials keep in good humour by false display of facilities confined to few rooms there at the cost of thousands of tourists who are the source of revenue generation for tourist and transport industries in the state, hoteliers, small time business holders etc.
