Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 21: Avaam Ki Avaaz President and veteran socialist Inder Mohinder Tar Singh accompanied by Satpal Saini and Lakhbir Singh(Pb.) today held press conference and demanded nothing less than a CBI probe into the discrepancies in the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) wherein the government exchequer is being wasted by the intentional favoritism shown towards the private companies and revengeful attitude towards the Direct Selling Agents(DSAs) Franchisees as the same has been reported by different sources.
Tar Singh said that it is quite unfortunate that one AGM (Marketing) Mahaldar to whom he spoke on the issue did not initially agree that there is any such discrepancy but after thorough discussion , he offered to settle the issues amicably sitting across the table. He said that the matter has been reported to the authorities about the DGM Gautam Lai and the aforesaid AGM (Marketing) who have made the entire BSNL department their own property by passing all the rules and principles.
BSNL avoids replying the RTIs and around hundred such RTIs are unreplied. And if they reply an RTI they avoid providing information referring to 8(l)j, he said, further highlighting that there is no publication of tenders for the franchisee of Jammu city, how the same company is being accommodated and obliged again and again. This firm sold seven hundred odd sims in one single day which is quite astonishing that is if issuance of one sim takes four to five minutes approximately then how seven hundred odd sims were issued in just one day, he alleged.
Huge out standings of various DSA franchisees are lying towards the BSNL. The amount of out standings varies from Rs. fifty thousands to Rs. eighteen lakhs. On one hand over two hundred such DSA Franchisees have already stopped working and many are on the verge of doing so.
And on other hand department itself agrees that there are ten DSA Franchisees who are from the families of the employees of BSNL who are being paid their commission without fail.
Baba Amaranth yatries were charged per mobile sim rupees one hundred ninety three(193/-) instead of Rs. one hundred six which was agreed in principle during the meeting of BSNL officials with various J&K Government officials. At Kathua the sims were being sold to the pilgrims at Rs. 106/- whereas the counter run by the department at Bhagwati, Nagar at Jammu charged Rs. 193/-. Surprisingly this time the pilgrims were not offered cheap STD (PCO) facilities, which we fail to understand added Tar Singh. Mobile sims have been issued using fake documents by the BSNL department itself.
Avaam Ki Avaaz urges upon the authorities to suspend the erring officials immediately strongly demanding CBI probe so that the discrepancies, lacking, misuse of power, favoritisms be unearthed and the erring officers be booked under the law of land, added Tar Singh.
