Early Times Report

Sunderbani, Sept 26: With responsible officers of the forest department playing blame game with each other, thousands of kanals of forest land has been encroached at Sunderbani and the process has been on unabated.
The officials and officers of the department refused to confirm the reports of mass encroachments and shifted blames on one another. However, when apprised of large scale green felling and deforestation, in Sunderbani, MoS forests directed Somraj, Divisional Forest Officer to file the status report on the charges levied by the people of Sunderbani.
The DFO however denied reports of encroachments and green felling; "I had gone on the spots and found nothing incriminating being done anywhere. There was no felling of woods reported from any point and everything was all right," DFO replied to the concerned Minister.
When informed about encroachment of nearly 200 kanals land by the encroachers who had build even pacca houses on the encroached land , the DFO said that he had put Range Officer Sunderbani to investigate the reports.
Interestingly, when the Range Officer Vinod Sharma was contacted, he also immediately shifted the onus to his subordinate. " I have asked my subordinate officer Madan Lal, Block officer Sunderbani to get me the status report on the issue ," said Vinod Sharma .
The block officer Madan Lal when contacted lost his head and hurled abuses on administration and media .
Madan however also informed that he often got directions from the 'seniors' to let the loot go on and keep the eyes wide shut .
"They (senior officers) generally ask us not to go deep into the matter and let the green felling go on," said Madan Lal .
Madan Lal's statement was corroborated by the fact that forest guards on duty who have also raised their big houses on the encroached forest lands on condition of anonymity confessed that their senior officers even allowed them to cut wood for sale and make our houses even while sometimes orders are issued from higher officers.
The instant examples of encroaches in the tehsil include 20-30 kanals encroached at village Makol near forest checkpost, 500 kanals at Patrada and 200 kanals at Phatadhal.
