Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 12: Taking a strong note of patronizing the corruption in Directorate of Distance Education Department, University of Jammu, Jammu Youth Forum today urged the Chancellor of University N N Vohra for immediate enquiry into the DDE new building scam.
Addressing the press-conference here today JYF University President Deepak Kumar said that JU administration instead of ordering inquiry into the sub-standard construction trying to cover up the same by ordering repair works at the cost of University exchequer. "The Vice Chancellor should have ordered the inquiry and asked the Contractor concerned to carry out the repairs as a part of obligation. But instead the University has decided to bear the expenses for repair which gives a complete impression that the incumbent VC is covering up the misdeeds of officials who approved the DDE building and compromised the building standards owing to which the building has starting showing signs of deterioration," he said.
Deepak disclosed that Director DDE vide order No: DDE/Adm/16/1772 Dated 20/07/2016 recommended to the Vice Chancellor with respect to 'Repairing of steel railing of DDE new building; repairing of windows, window panes and washrooms of DDE new building; and whitewash of the building after sanitary repairs' and the Vice Chancellor also showed the urgency and cleared the file on 21/07/2016.
"Now, after hue and cry over the new DDE building scam the Vice Chancellor and the DDE Director has gone on defensive path as repair work has been started despite approval. But, the JU administration is refraining itself form ordering inquiry into the scam which speaks volume about their intention," he asserted.
Pertinent to mention here that the newly constructed building adjacent to old building of Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) has started decaying on a fast speed. The building was commissioned in Jan'2014, is a glaring example of the loot as the building has deteriorated to a great extent within two years of commissioning. The building was constructed at a huge cost of Rs 5 crore.
Deepak revealed that plaster has loosened from various sides which indicate that poor quality cement was used or used less, besides the seepage of water has almost destroyed all the walls from inside. "Due to seepage, the wooden panelling has been done in Library hall. But it is impossible to do the same in all the halls as it require huge sum of money. Further, the windows are also lying damaged," He maintained.
