Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 12: The Senior Assistants engaged in Excise and Commercial Taxes Department (E&CT) feel dejected as the department has failed to create the post of Senior Officer at par with senior stenography post in every Deputy Commissioner office in Jammu and Kashmir.
It is one of the long pending demands of employee of the Excise and Commercial Taxes department which is not met by the department concerned for unknown reasons.
Source in the department said that there were 13 Deputy Commissioner Offices in Jammu and Kashmir where Senior Assistants have been working round the clock and manning the departments since their establishment due to non creation of post of Section Officer. But in other departments of the state, the same business is being done by the Section Officer.
" Owing to which, the Senior Assistants are engaged in the E&CT department, feel dejected as they have spent lot of time at one post and got a single promotion before superannuation while in other departments, the Junior Assistants so far have got two promotions and have become Section Officers", source added.
The source further said that owing to reluctance of the authorities to create the post of section officer by the concerned department, the Senior Assistants have been forced to do the work of the section officer by getting the single grade of Senior Assistant during the service. "Though, the employees union has repeatedly put forward its demands before the commissioner office but nothing has been done so far by the department", said an employee wishing anonymity.
It is the only department which generates huge revenue by collecting different taxes and considered to be the backbone of the government but its own employees have been getting step motherly treatment since long time from the government, said Senior Assistant, Pritam Dass engaged in Deputy commissioner’s office, Jammu. "The apathy of the department concerned can be gauged from this fact that a police constable has received more salary from the Inspector who is engaged in E&CT department since last 26 years", said an Inspector, Parmod Singh, adding that before 1982, a commercial Taxes Department's guard had received more pay from the police constable while with passage of time, the guards have become a laggard.
The employees have demanded appropriate action.
