Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct, 13: The migrants living in Jagti township lack basic amneties and have been craving for attention.
A mini township was constructed at Jagti in Nagrota area in year 2011 consisting of 176 blocks each having 24 TRTs to house these families who were languishing in various camps in Jammu and its out skirts.
Kashmiri migrant families who were living in pathtic conditions in various camps in Jammu and its out skirts were housed in Jagti quarters which were constructed in 2011 to provide better living facilities to migrants but the condition of these quarters is no more up to the mark.
The mini township constructed with an estimated cost of about Rs. 500 crores turned out to be just a colony of sand dunes as the condition of these buildings worsened during the rainy season of very first year of its construction.
The roof tops and walls of these buildings developed cracks and leakages which were not being repaired by the concerned department. Inmates at several occasions brought the problems into the notice of men at helms but their plight always fall flat to deaf ears and they continued to suffer each passing year.
"There is general belief that Relief Organization is a den to corruption where previously officials had created a chain of touts to continue the malpractices. Either it may be the case of camp offices or Relief organization itself, every where there is no justice on the ground", alleged the inmates.
The Jagti camp inmates are going through many hardships as their rooms, roofs, bathrooms and ceilings were leaking. There were reports of cracks that several buildings have developed due to use of sub standard material and material lesser in quantity which is a straight threat to the lives of the inmates.
People of the camp have urged the concerned higher ups to pay a visit to this township and see the problem being faced by the inmates themselves instead of sitting in their offices.
