After the announcement of three medical colleges in Jammu province viz Doda, Kathua and Rajouri, the officials of the GMCH Jammu had submitted a proposal to the Health Department for sanctioning deemed Medical University of Health Sciences, Jammu. "In the interest of qualitative medical education, academics, research, patient care and over all qualitative health care delivery system, the proposal was made by the officials including doctors," sources said. They said the Jammu University is facing heavy work load as Indira Gandhi Government Dental College (IGGDC), Jammu, nursing colleges of Jammu province, paramedical institutes of Jammu, physiotherapy colleges and ancillary training institutes of Jammu province, are affiliated to it. Sources said the autonomous deemed Medical University will bring all these health related medical institutions under one roof and will go a long way in enhancing the quality of medical education of this region. This will also facilitate these institutions to meet norms set by Medical Council of India (MCI), Dental Council of India (DCI), Nursing Council and Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) very effectively. Various post and positions proposed in the proposal will be carved from the present existing establishment and will not have much substantial financial implication, sources added.
