Procession taken out to observe 'Ashura'

Jammu, Oct 12: Ashura- a religious observance marked by Shiite Muslims as the 10th day of Muharram, a large procession was taken out in old city on this occasion with traditional reverence. A procession was taken out from Ahaata Peer Mitha Sofi Shaha in which thousands of mourners across the region participated from across the state. Earlier a Majalis was organized in which Maulana Syed Mohd Abbas Rizvi addressed the gathering and deliver sermon on the significance of the holy day. Religious cleric stressed upon the teachings of Imam Hussain (A.S) and Aashura symbolizes the struggle against the cruelty, injustice and tyranny of Yazeed. He further added that Imam Hussain(A.S) achieved Martyrdom because of his devotion to eternal truth. Reciting Nohas and Marsiah the mourners creating spiritual ambiance in the city while surcharged with religious fervor the mourners of all age groups were seen beating themselves with sharp flaglets to bleed. After passing through the traditional route i.e Lakhdatta Bazaar, Rajinder Bazaar, Shaheedi Chowk, Wazarat Road and culminated at Karbala Complex where Moulana Syed Mohammad Abbass Rizvi an Iranian Scholar delivered majlis Sham-e-Ghariban- the traditional religious sermon about the sacrifice of revered Imam Hussain and his family. Yet another Ashura procession was also taken out from New Plots by Anjuman-e-Haidery New Plot which merged with the main procession at Imam Bargah Sofi Shah Peer Mitha. Speaking to media person after the religious rituals at Karbala Complex Jammu, President Anjuman-e-Imamia, Jammu Syed Amanat Ali Shah said that people should learn the lesson from the teachings of Islam through Imam Hussain (A.S) and his companions in Karbala. Prof Sujat Ali Khan Secretary Anjuman-e-Imamia, Jammu stressed that it is our duty to spread the message of Islam that has been gifted upon us by our beloved Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (S.A.W). "Ashura gives a message to entire humanity that whenever truth or righteousness is being suppressed and evil or false hood is promoted, we should never forego our responsibilities even though we need to sacrifice our self for the cause, he said. Speakers said that they are thankful Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for showing concern for the arrangements regarding Moharram and Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali Minister (CAPD) J&K Government and also expressed gratitude to Muslim Federation, Jammu Muslim Front, Rajinder Bazaar Association, Lakhdatta Bazaar, Dogra Sadar Sabha, Dharmarth Trust and to all the prominent citizens for their due full cooperation and support during the procession by installing different stalls as refreshment for the mourners. Meanwhile Muharram procession was also taken out at Poonch Mendhar and Gursai of Poonch district. Thousands of mourners today joined the Ashura processions to remember the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, today.
Mourners, mostly in black dress, joined the Ashura processions on the tenth day of Muharram month of Islamic calendar. Beating their chests and reciting 'Marcia', the mourners were heading towards Karbala Complex.
The district administration has made adequate security arrangements while paramedical staff too was deployed enroute the procession route.
SDM Mendar Sher Singh, Addl SP Poonch M Mir, Tehsildhar Shahzed Khan, SDPO Mendhar Shahied Nayeem , BMO Mendhar Dr Zulfkar Ahmed, SHO Mendhar Anzar Mir, Anjuname Haidri Mendhar President Sayeed Munir Hussain Shah and M S Nazki president Press Council of Mendhar Poonch and others also participated in Ashura.
