Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 22: Forgetting his basic duty as a political stalwart to prevail upon masses in Kashmir and turn the tide of unrest in valley, National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah cautioned the incumbent political government to stop the reign of repression and coercion taking side with the miscreants and law breakers responsible for lawlessness in Kashmir.
Media reports reveal that NC supremo seems disturbed over killings and large scale arrests being made on daily basis of miscreants and law-breakers and expect the government to show clemency to such trouble creators seemingly suggesting it to allow continuation of law and order problem in valley.
Ridiculing the utterances of National Conference, Shafiq Mohd of Valley said that such a veteran politician is expected to have a balance view of the whole security scenario presently prevailing in Kashmir and should not gloss over the genesis of the problem afflicting valley since nearly four months. While giving his sermon to the government, which is doing its best to bring normalcy in the valley, he should first look to those stone-pelters and goonda elements who have taken the valley for ransom and created unending hooliganism damaging the private property of peace loving people, who are totally fed up and pining for normal situation in Kashmir. Taking a dig at the version of Dr. Abdullah calling betrayal of PDP by joining hands with the BJP, Randhir Kumar, social worker said that it does not befits the NC leader to cast aspersion upon other political party when NC itself had been in alliance with BJP government at the centre in which Omar Abdullah was a part of the centre ministry as representative of National Conference. Calling that Dr. Abdullah is a master of political gimmickry and can change his tone as per convenience, a political analyst pleading anonymity said that Dr. Abdullah's apprehension about normalcy not limping back in valley by subjecting people to harassment and intimidation may be correct to the extent that it is not the solution of the unrest, but quickly added that what is the contribution of NC and its supporters for motivating the general public, especially those indulging into arson, stone-pelting, damaging government and private property in valley.
Commenting on the statement of NC chief asking central leadership against crucial delay in reaching out to the people and making sincere efforts in resolving problem of Kashmir, Dinesh Mehra, educationist said that how come the NC forgets the efforts of government of India which recently sent All Party Delegations to Kashmir to reach out to people, especially separatists leaders who declined to talk to them ostensibly due to their personal compulsions and limitations. It is incorrect to say that the government is not trying to win trust and confidence of the public, he added.
Savita Singh, retired police officer said that it is easy to criticize the law enforcing agencies of the government to lawfully handle those who are hell bent to perpetuate restlessness in the valley at the instance of separatists, but what is the solution with NC chief, who has tremendous amount of political and administrative experience and if he has one, he should come forward and share it with his counterparts in the government to first put to an end turmoil instead of giving high pitch speeches in the public domain just for rebuilding its sagging political image in the state.
