Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 16: After witnessing chilly conditions during the last about a fortnight, weather turned pleasant as sun came out much to the delight of the people in the Kashmir valley.

The border town of Leh was the coldest place in the region at minus 8.1 degree, followed by world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where the mercury dipped and settled at minus 5.5 degree. A Met department spokesperson said that weather will remain dry during the next about a week in Kashmir valley, which could result in dip in the night temperature.
The night temperature in Leh dipped and settled at minus 8.1 degree, against minus 2.8 degree recorded on Friday.
He said skies will be mainly clear to generally cloudy during the next 24 hours in Leh, where maximum and minimum temperature would be around 8 degree and minus 8 degree, respectively.
After witnessing above normal night temperature, people woke up to a chilly Friday morning due to ice cold winds in the summer capital, Srinagar. However, as the day progressed sun came out, bringing much needed relief from chilly weather conditions in Srinagar. Against 3.3 degree recorded on Thursday, the night temperature in Srinagar was 3.4 degree, which is over 2 degrees above normal.
"The skies will be partly cloudy to generally cloudy during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where the maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 15 degree and 2 degree, respectively," he said.
Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, was the coldest place in the valley as the mercury dipped and settled at minus 5.5 degree, against minus 4 degree recorded on Thursday. The mercury in the ski resort was 5 degree below normal.
The night temperature in Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and world famous health resort of Pahalgam dipped and settled at 3.8 degree, minus 0.8 degree and minus 4.1 degree, respectively.
