Two leopard cubs rescued | | | Rajouri, Jan 1: Wildlife warden Rajouri division claimed to have rescued two cubs of leopard from a forest area situated in the vicinity of Gurdhan village just few hundred metres away from Rajouri town in the early morning hours today. On the other hand one Mohd Showkat of village Gurdhan Chawa has claimed that a cub had attacked on him while he was taking bath at a well in isolated place and he managed to overpower the cub. He also claimed to have handed over the cub to wild life department. Mushtaq Choudhry, wildlife warden said people informed about two Leopard cubs caught in 'leg trap' near army installation at Gurdhan. "A team was rushed to the area and both the cubs were rescued. One was released on the spot while another was treated in Army's veterinary hospital and will be released soon" said wildlife warden. He added as the cubs were about 4 months old and were dependent on their mother; one was immediately released in the forest so that the mother may not stray into human habitation in their search. Wildlife officials have also approached the police to lodge FIR against unknown persons who had laid the leg trap in the forest area. |
