Govt fails to repatriate wardens of Gujjar Bakerwal hostels back to Education Deptt | Against tenure of 2-3 years, some overstaying since 8-10 years | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 1: The state government has so far failed to repatriate several wardens of Gujjar Bakerwal hostels back to their parent School Education department, despite their overstay of 8-10 years. According to sources, the General Administration Department (GAD) usually calls applications from the School Education department for the appointment of wardens to various Gujjar Bakerwal Hostels spread across the state. The School Education department invites applications from the teachers and after conducting their interviews, forwards a panel of 3 teachers, to GAD for appointment of the warden, out of which GAD chooses one for one hostel. The tenure of a teacher as warden of Gujjar-Bakerwal hostel is two years and maximum of three years but at present some of the wardens have been overstaying on the posts of wardens from 8-10 years and the government has failed to repatriate them back to the School Education department. Some of these wardens who have been overstaying include Mushtaq Hussain, Warden Boys hostel Jammu and has been overstaying for the last nine years, since year 2010. Salam Din, warden Boys Hostel Doda, has been overstaying since last 11 years. Reyaz-ul-Haq Warden Hostel Kathua, overstaying since year 2013, Shakeel Ahmed Warden Udhampur hostel has been overstaying since year 2009, Mohammad Farid Warden Poonch Hostel overstaying since year 2013 and Mohammad Azam, Warden Rajouri Hostel, overstaying since year 2010. Sources in the department said that some of the wardens have been holding charge of more than two hostels and have also been holding the DDO powers of other hostels as well. "The School Education department has numerous eligible and deserving candidates to hold the posts of wardens but until these overstaying wardens would not be send back to their parent department, nothing can be done", an official said, adding that it was the responsibility of the GAD as well as Tribal Department to repatriate back these overstaying wardens back to the School Education department, so that they would also serve the purpose, for which they were selected in the Education department. "There seems something fishy between the officials of Tribal Department as well as GAD that they have not been able to repatriate back these overstaying wardens back to Education department", an official said, adding that a warden of Gujjar Bakerwal Hostel has to utilize funds to the tune of several Crores in a year, so they would be least interested to return back to Education department. There are a total of 23 Gujjar-Bakerwal hostels for tribal boys and girls, spread over the state with a sanctioned strength of 16 wardens, while remaining have been manned by in charge wardens. |
