TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Only 16119 jobs in 5 years
Rest were either compassionate or contractual
1/17/2008 11:50:21 PM
Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 17 If one looks back at the 2002 election manifesto of the Peoples Democratic Party, there was a big promise of ensuring at least one job to each household. Later, the ruling coalition's election manifesto too echoed the same words. However, at the end of five years when the Finance Minister says that entire economic profile of the state has changed, the job meter says that only 16119 were provided with regular jobs while other few thousands appointed on either compassionate grounds or engaged on casual basis. Since the present coalition government took over in November 2002, as many as 2602 persons were appointed in the government services on recommendation of the Public Service Commission and 8418 were appointed on recommendations of the Services Selection Board. The only other category of people who got government jobs were in the Police. As many as 5099 persons were appointed in the Police department through proper selection process. Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had said in the legislative assembly on Monday that 83,000 jobs were provide...

1/17/2008 11:46:40 PM
Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 17 The government has yet again refused to own the West Pakistan refugees as citizens of Jammu and Kashmir even though a promise has been made for their rehabilitation. Maintaining that west Pakistani refugees were not state subjects of Jammu and Kashmir despite having settled here five decades ago, the state government today said they were not eligible for grant of permanent resident certificates in the state. Though government made commitment for their rehabilitation but the issue created ruckus in the legislative council today. Early Times Reporter Jammu | Jan 17 The corruption scam allegedly involving a Minister which stunned the state and embarrassed the government is getting thicker and murkier by the day. All budgetary claims based on figures jugglery are illusory
1/17/2008 11:19:29 PM
Early Times Special Correspondent Jammu | Jan 17 All the budgets presented in the election year, either by the center or of any state will be populist, aimed at pleasing all sections of the people, with an eye on the next elections. So there is nothing unusual in the budget proposals presented by the Finance Minister Tariq Hameed Qarra in the J&K assembly on January 16, which is claimed to be a zero deficit budget consecutively for last sixth year presented by the coalition government. It is all pleasing budget, prepared manipulatively, playing jugglery of figures as all the populist, particularly the pre election budget are. But what was unprecedented in the hour long budget speech mad...
