| Year after Bakra's fall, questions remain | | | | Early Times Reporter

A year after dramatic broad daylight murder of seemingly reformed gangster popularly known as Bakra, the Police may have closed the case with its initial "successes" but many questions still remain unanswered about the killing conspiracy.
On November 25 last year, Sanjay Kumar alias Bakra was shot dead in the lawns of renowned endocrinologist Dr RP Kudiyar in posh Trikuta Nagar area. The site of Bakra's murder was barely few yards away from the house of business tycoon Rajinder Bhushan Chopra who along with family members was eliminated by a still unknown gang barely two months before Bakra's killing.
The Police, after an intensive chase, claimed to have solved the Bakra murder case with arrest of one Mohan Cheer and his another accomplice who are believed to have killed the former gangster. However, the family of the deceased is not ready to accept in this theory as they believe that the main conspirator has been let off.

On his visit to Jammu and Kashmir after becoming Vice President of India, a seasoned diplomat and old Kashmir hand Dr Mohammad Hamid Ansari today went on an extensive sightseeing, spiritual bliss and joyride in the Dal Lake in the winter capital city.
On his arrival at the Srinagar airport this afternoon, the Vice President was accorded warm welcome. He was received by Governor, Lt. Gen. (Retd), S. K. Sinha, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chairman, Legislative Council, Ghulam Nabi Lone, Minister for Agriculture, Abdul Aziz Zargar, Chief Secretary, B. R. Kundal and senior civil, army and police officers. A guard of honour was also presented to him.

Lieutenant General Mukesh Sabharwal today took over as the General Officer in Commanding of the Srinagar-based Army command, 15 Corps, responsible for protecting the Line of Control and tackling militancy in the Kashmir valley.
Sabharwal replaced Lieutenant General Amarjit Singh Sekhon at a ceremony at Badami Bagh cantonment here. Sekhon has been posted as Director General Military Operations, (DGMO) at New Delhi.
With Assembly elections due next year in the state, Sabharwal has his task cut out as militants are expected to try to sabotage the poll process.

As the winter capital city still continues to enjoy the pre-winter warmth, the chill is on a record breaking spree in Kashmir with mercury dipping to an all time low.
Interestingly, as the harsh winter in Kashmir is affecting operation of many passenger flights every day, at the same time the cold is emerging as best scenario for the winged guests coming from various parts of the world.
Kashmir Valley continues to reel under an intense cold wave as seven out of 10 outbound flights from the international airport here were cancelled on Friday in view of poor visibility caused by fog, official sources said.

According to first calander issued by the legislative assembly secretariat, the forthcoming session beginning January 7 will have 21 sittings at all.
