One of the longest serving Inspector Generals of Police in Jammu Zone Dr SP Vaid has been transferred and IGP CID K Rejindra Kumar has been posted as new incumbent.
Vaid has has been transferred and posted as IGP Crime and Railways. A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the state cabinet held here this evening.
Meanwhile, DIG Doda Range Farooq Khan has been transferred and posted as new DIG of Jammu-Kathua range in place of L I Mohanty who has been promoted as IGP.

Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today proposed cut in second class and AC fares, following the trend he set in the last four years.
Presenting the Railway Budget for 2008-09, Prasad announced that AC tier I fares would be reduced by 7 per cent, while that of AC tier II would go down by 4 per cent in the lean season.
The Railway Minister, in many new initiative also announced a new train to Jammu.
Further, he said a one rupee discount would be given on non-suburban second class ordinary fares of up to Rs 50 and 5 per cent across the board in non-suburban second class fares above Rs 50.

As widely expected, the cabinet could not take decision on appointment of Superintendents of Police in many districts where these positions are lying vacant for quite sometime.

Two people, including a Jammu resident, have been arrested for allegedly selling opium poppy straw in the national capital and nearly 100 kg of the banned substance has been seized from them, the police said Tuesday.
Bashir Ahmed, a 33-year-old from Jammu, and Ravinder Narayan, 22, of Bihar, were arrested on the Ring Road near Gurudwara Majnu Ka Tila in northeast Delhi Monday evening. The police recovered 95.5 kg of poppy straw concealed in four gunny bags in their Maruti car.
The police said the duo was supposed to distribute the drugs to their clients in the city.

The Power Development Department (PDD) has embarked on a novel strategy for motivating consumers to clear their power tarrif. PDD employees on a mike fitted van have started bleating one warning to the power consumers “clear your arrears failing which electricity supply would be snapped.”

The State cabinet which met here today under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad approved creation of 6711 additional Anganwari centres in 140 ICDS projects of the state under phase III of ICDS expansion scheme.
It also approved creation of 6711 posts of Anganwari workers and same number of helpers for the new Anganwari centres. The cabinet also gave nod to creation of 268 additional posts of Supervisor with one supervisor for each 25 Anganwari Cetres in the pay scale of Rs 4000-6000.
