Soz declares ‘arrival’, says no early elections

Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 12 Though it has been month since Union Water Resources Minister Saif-ud-Din Soz been nominated as president of the Jammu and Kashmir unit of Congress but today he formally declared his arrival on the scene by holding significantly attended public meeting at Srinagar. The “slight split” in the house was seen as wide open as a particular section of Congress attended the Soz rally while others were conspicuous by their absence. Helath Minister Mangat Ram Sharma, CAPD Minister Taj Mohiuddin and Soz’s predecessor Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed were the prominent faces at the Sher-e-Kashmir Park where the new PCC Chief formally declared his arrival on state’s Congress scene. Soz asserted that there is no possibility of snap polls and the present coalition government will complete its full term till October. "The coalition government will last its full term; it is working well and elections are not round the corner," he said. Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 12 The government decision of halting the recruitment process, has given National Conference president Omar Abdullah a food for thought. Omar, who is on an extended tour of Kathua district, is making it a point to tell the people that the government decision to put brakes on the employment is politically motivated. Addressing a public meeting in Basohli, Omar termed the move as an election strategy of the ruling alliance at the cost of unemployed youth. Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 12 It has long been our cultural practice to garland loved ones on weddings or politicians out of sycophancy with currency notes. The larger the currency laden garland, the bigger the social profile of the one who offers and the one who accepts. This tradition has been deeply entrenched in our cultural system but soon this may be declared as an indecent practice. The currency notes depict the highest symbol of sovereign the way the national flag does. Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 12 Three years of extraction and two of auction has earned the state whopping revenue of Rs Ten Millions (One Crore). It was an experiment to sell the sapphire corundum. Just imagine if this is made a form of mining practice, how it changes the economic outlook. The sapphire corundum, popularly known as Neelam and extracted from the Paddar area of Kishtwar was put on auction at the RRL lawns here for two days. 17 kilograms of corundum has been sold for Rs One Crore in just two days.
