G20 Meet: After three back to back encounters, security beefed up in North Kashmir

Early Times Report Srinagar, May 7: Security has been beefed up in north Kashmir ahead of a G20 meet in the valley later this month, in view of three back-to-back encounters with militants in which five ultras were killed, officials said on Sunday. Additional security personnel have been deployed on the ground and drones are being used for aerial surveillance, they said. Sniffer dogs are assisting security personnel in checking vehicles at various check points established to prevent movement of militants or explosives, they said. The officials said the security apparatus has been put on a heightened alert as Kashmir will host the third G20 Tourism Working Group meeting later this month. North Kashmir has witnessed three back-to-back encounters between security forces and militants in the past five days, in which five ultras were killed. Three of these five ultras hailed from south Kashmir. Early Times Report JAMMU, May 7: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) chief and former Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that scrapping of Article 370 stopped stone pelting and terror attacks. However, Azad added that the recent terror attacks are a cause for concern. Azad said that the Central government has succeeded in controlling terrorism and stone pelting in Jammu and Kashmir. Agencies New Delhi, May 7: In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive to increase exports, the centre is carrying out a major change in the deployments of military or defence attaches as they would be posted to countries where they can help in expanding domestic defence exports. Rajnath Singh to inaugurate ‘IAF Heritage Centre’ today

Agencies Chandigarh, May 7: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the first-of-its-kind Indian Air Force Heritage Centre here on Monday, officials said. It was set up under a memorandum of understanding between the Union Territory of Chandigarh and the IAF, signed last year. Last month, Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari visited the Indian Air Force Heritage Centre to review its progress. Early Times Report Srinagar, May 7: Authorities issued a low danger avalanche warning in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district during the next 24 hours, officials said. Early Times Report Srinagar, May 7: Police on Sunday claimed to have averted a major tragedy when they arrested a militant associate and recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. “Police averted a major tragedy by apprehending a terror associate Ishafq Ahmad Wani a resident of Arigam in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district and recovered an IED weighing 5-6 Kgs approximately on his disclosure”, police said in a tweet. Agencies New Delhi, May 7: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the posting of women officers of the Territorial Army (TA) with its engineer regiments along the Line of Control (LoC). He has also cleared the appointment of the women officers as staff officers at TA group headquarters and directorate general of TA at New Delhi according to organisational requirements, the defence ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
