Rajender Tiku meets Governor

SRINAGAR: Mr. Rajender Tiku, a Sculptor who is well known all over the country, called on Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here today. During their meeting, the Governor and Mr. Tiku discussed the measures required to be taken for the promotion of art and aesthetics in Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Tiku briefed the Governor about the photograph series, “Earth Pictures”, which he is presently working on and about his latest sculptures. He presented to the Governor two photographs of the “Earth Pictures” series and informed that he is organizing an exhibition of his latest sculptures in New Delhi later this year. He also informed the Governor about his forthcoming assignment as a Visiting Professor at the Musashino Art University, Tokyo. The Governor suggested to Mr. Tiku to consider exhibiting his works in the State and wished him continuing successes in his artistic pursuits....

BJP demands mechanism to show funds' utilisation by J&K govt

Jammu : BJP today demanded a mechanism to account for utilisation of central funds given to Jammu and Kashmir government for development of the state. BJP National Executive member and state party spokesperson Jitendra Singh demanded that the government must come out with precise details to prove its claim that central funds were being allocated equitably among the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. "There is a popular perception that central funds are being callously swindled or misused by the powers-that-be on the pretext of militancy which has, ironically, according to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, declined, which is why he is demanding revocation of AFSPA," Singh said here. Govt orders inquiry into the Civil Sectt fire incident

SRINAGAR : Following the fire incident in the annexe of Civil Secretariat Srinagar this morning, the Government today ordered an inquiry into the incident to be conducted by Secretary, General Administration Department. The inquiry will be completed within 15 days. Minister of State for Home, Mr. Sajad Ahmad Kitchloo inspected the site of fire and personally monitored the rescue and fire extinguishing operation. Meanwhile, the fire was brought under control and all the houses and business establishments located in the back side of the wooden annexe of the Civil Secretariat Srinagar were protected. Jammu : Army's Norther Command Headquarters has floated tenders for the purchase of six Border Surveillance Management Systems (BSMS) for deployment in Jammu and Kashmir. "A surveillance system is required which can cater to Indian Army's peacetime requirements, both during day and night," said the Request for Proposal (RFP) document released recently by Northern Command's First Field Ordnance Depot. Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 11 : According to District Magistrate Srinagar, in the interest of health care of patients under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products within 100 yards of all Hospitals is banned. As such Medial Superintendents of all Hospitals in the district shall ensure that no sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products be allowed within 100 yards around their institutions.
