| All was not elegant with Gopal Sharma | | | | Early Times Reporter
Jammu|Sept 23
The former Director General of Police Gopal Sharma has, by now, settled down in his new position as chief of SSB, but his replacement, as it comes out now, was not quite elegantly executed.
An IPS officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre, Sharma had an unblemished record in different capacities ranging from and Sub Divisional Police Officer to the rank of Director General of Police. His exit from the office of the Director General of Police was not premature but was also not something he would have liked at that stage, sources close to Sharma told EARLY TIMES.
Sharma, sources said, if were given an opportunity of choice, had two options for him. One, that he would have wanted the Jammu and Kashmir Government to wait for his adjustment on a central assignment or give him a better option to work in the state. On the contrary Sharma was caught unaware when government moved with the appointment of Kuldeep Khoda as DGP, said sources close to Sharma.
The government first decided to appoint Kuldeep Khoda as DGP and then started some brain-searching tha...

Jammu | Sept 23
Formally roping in the entrepreneurs in power generation sector, the Jammu and Kashmir government has awarded 51 small projects to the private sector companies.
The allotment made through national level competitive bidding is seen as a first major step towards augmentation of power generation and supply in the state. The government had floated the tenders for power generation several times in the recent past but there was not matching response from the entrepreneurs.
The 51 projects allotted to the private sector companies, upon their completion, will be able to generate a total of 350 MW of power. It may be mentioned here that the government, in ...

Jammu | Sep 23
More than 100 passengers of the Jet airways today had a narrow escape as the airbus went off the strip at Srinagar airport skidding off to the adjoining green fields.
Immediately after the plane skidded off the track on runway, the crew sounded state of emergency which put the passengers in a panicky situation. "May started crying as this seemed to be the last flight", a passenger who was on board told EARLY TIMES over phone from Srinagar.
All passengers, however, later embarked safe out of the place with no injuries or even bruises to any on. But those few minutes of the trouble when the plane had difficulties in landing and subsequently skidded o...
| | | | Surgeon uses govt accommodation as clinic | | Being kin of CM, norms do not matter to him | | | Early Times Reporter
Jammu | Sept 23
Charity begins at home – is an age old adage. Yet it seems that it needs to be reminded to those at helm of affairs in governance. Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who always stresses upon good-governance and weeding out corruption in administration besides advising officials not to misuse their powers, is perhaps the most eligible to be given the aide-memoire.
Azad’s close relative – a doctor who is a surgeon and head of a unit of the department at GMC Hospital has allegedly not only thrown all norms to winds but also not cared to give heed to the norms laid down by his kin-in-power. Perhaps taking advantage of his proximity with the Chief Minister,...
| | | | This alone won't do, Mr. Azad! | | | | Early Times Special Correspondent
Jammu | Sep 23
Whether it is a panky reaction and hasty damage control exercise, to stem erosion of his credibility as a crusader against corruption or a genuine prompt response to the media reports, having wider ramification with the potential to make it a burning public issue, the step taken by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to cancel the allotments of 31 shops and halls in Bahu Plaza by the JDA, alone is not going to retrieve the situation. Besides the action leading to hoards of litigations by the affected allotees of commercial premises, the set back to government credibility and Ghulam Nabi Azad's claim of crusade against corruption will not be mad...
