A ritualistic forum for rhetoric by Govt....!
Apex Committee meeting: A holiday for members in Kashmir this time….?

Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 19: The Apex Committee meeting of Kashmiri Pandits held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday is once again under scathing attack from a host of KP organizations, genuinely so on the points and loopholes they have picked up in context of its unfruitful outcome. For the government, it was just another routine meeting to meet the formality and fulfill the 'hollow obligation' towards the community. And for the present members who have shrunk considerably after government's 'dictatorial' order asking some meaningful members to stay away , it was certainly a paid holiday to the Kashmir.
The criticism from certain quarters on the futility of holding meetings of Apex Committee contesting the intensions of the state government is well founded . One wonders what was the purpose of convening it this time in the summer capital as nothing concrete or earthshaking has come on the commitments made in previous meetings. One is surprised not at the conduct of the government for they have to merely play with the words and use rhetoric on most of the issues as far as the commitments for welfare of the community is concerned. The state government minced no words in yesterday's meeting that it was helpless on demands like enhancement of relief and other burning issues and threw the ball in the court of New Delhi.
Now this could have come as shocker to the members who attended it and probably none of them contested it as to why state government had failed to convey and persuade the Union government on most of the issues that have been hanging in air for a long time.
The attitude of the government as expressed by some organizations only reflects tactics of passing the buck while misleading the community on ever elusive promises and claims on return of Pundits to homeland with dignity.
Ironically, the statement of the Chief Minister was laden with 'artificial flavours' on the return rhetoric that his government was trying this to happen in terms of creating 'conducive atmosphere' for their safe return. There could be no big joke than this in the backdrop of the realities on ground vis-a- vis the attempts and steps being taken by the government .
Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch, which has been critical of the approach of the government agencies has rightly so lashed out in what it contends that in order to dispel the apprehensions, the government first came out with a long list of agenda only to mislead the displaced community with another round of false hopes, something which has been substantiated in just concluded meeting of Apex Committee. It has rightly so alleged that second meeting presided over by the Chief Minister has proved to be a bundle of homilies dished out to the credulous Apex members. For no serious issues like Temple Bill over which the entire community has been crying hoarse was discussed nor the issue related to youth problems were taken up by the members.
