Congress MPs also pulling in different directions | Classical Example Of Disunity | | Neha JAMMU, Sept 25: The State unit of the BJP is a divided house. It is a fact. There are at least three main groups in this party. One is led by the present State BJP president, who is on his way out. Another is being led by the former State BJP president and MLA from Jammu East Assembly Constituency. The third group is being led by not-that-active former State BJP president who was succeeded by the MLA from the Jammu East Assembly Constituency. The only silver lining is that the group leaders do share one platform on occasions. There was another group within the State BJP and that was shown the door by the party high command months ago on the ground that its 7 members voted against the party candidate seeking election to the Legislative Council. They had allegedly voted for the Congress and the NC candidates. If the State unit of the BJP is a divided house, the story of the State unit of the Congress party is no different. It is also divided into a number of groups. The two main groups are of course the ones which are being headed by the JKPCC president and Union Health Minister and former J&K Chief Minister. Their recent visit to the winter capital cleared the air and established beyond any doubt that they are unlikely to work together and present a united face in order to strengthen the party and enthuse and inspire the party workers and cadres. Both of them stayed in Jammu for two days, but did not share a common platform. They conducted themselves in a manner which could be construed as a classical example of disunity in the party whose president says that no party could form Government in the State without the direct or indirect support of the Congress. The JKPCC chief operated from the party headquarters and the Union Health Minister operated from his official resident and the state guest house. The latter also visited the Jammu Medical College. Both of them also spoke on different themes and issues. They interacted with media persons at different places and finally vanished from the scene, thus giving another opportunity to their political rivals to laugh at the Congress leadership. It is not just that the JKPCC chief and the Union Health Minister are not working in unison, despite the fact that there are instructions from the top not to organize parallel activities in the State. Even both the Congress MPs, who represent Jammu-Poonch and Udhampur-Kathua Lok Sabha constituencies, are pulling in different directions. One of them is openly with the JKPCC chief and the other openly with the Union Health Minister. One of the two remained busy with the JKPCC chief and the other remained busy with the Union Health Minister. Both the MPs behave in a fashion as if they represent different interests. The worst part of the whole situation has been that none of them has ever taken up the Jammu issue in right earnest. They issue some vague statements from time to time and that's all. As for the Congress Ministers, less said the better. Even the Union Health Minister last year had snubbed them and said that they were not Ministers of their respective constituencies. He had urged them to tour the entire state, listen to the people's problems and do what was required to be done in the interest of the party and the people. This is not the way the parties function. If the top-ranking Congress leaders continue to behave like they behaved so far, the party would suffer an irreparable damage. They have not only to present a united face, but have also to mitigate the people's hardships. As for the Congress MPs, they need to work together. They have to discharge their obligations towards their cConstituency and their main job is to fight for the Jammu cause the way the Kashmiri MPs are fighting for the Kashmir cause. |
