Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Sept 25: Former Minister and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil today urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take action against the corrupt or face the wrath of the people.
Addressing public gatherings at Hanura and Tangmulla in Baramulla district, Vakil said Omar must take his fight against the corrupt to its logical end.
Vakil appreciated the role of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh "who did not spare their own party men involved in corruption and even forced the Chief Minister of Maharashtra to resign on allegations of being involved in corruption. This shows how much Congress is committed to corruption free system. This is really appreciable and should be taken positively with the appreciation to the Prime Minister of India and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Those who are tainted or corrupt will have no place in the party or Government", added Vakil.
He urged the Chief Minister not to spare the corrupt irrespective of the position. "Allegations of corruption pouring in from any quarters must be investigated. This menace has not only ruined our State but our country as well," he added.
Vakil said if Chief Minister hesitates in taking action, he will have to face wrath of the people in near future which neither Congress nor NC can afford. He said if the Government succeeds in eradicating this menace it will be the biggest achievement of the present Government headed by Omar Abdullah.
Vakil stressed upon the Chief Minister to activate bureaucracy at secretariat and district level to address the grievances of the people. "The Chief Minister should direct the Ministers to come out of their Assembly constituencies to address the grievances of the people for which they are crying. If Government fails to address the grievances of the people, the opposition will definitely get benefit out of it", he said.
"Opposition depends more on sentimental issues that is why they are deliberately not raising the problems of the people in order to create wedge between the people and the Government and with intention that the people will get dejected by the performance of the Government", he said.
Vakil asked party workers to prepare themselves for local body elections and strengthen Congress at grass root level.
