| BJP leaders had opposed Manhas's decision to target Farooq | | Advised him to alter the programme | | Early Times Report jammu, Oct 4: Sharp differences have cropped up in BJP over the Party's offensive against the National Conference Patriarch and Union Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah who is also chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). According to sources, two party leaders who have close links with NC in general and Dr Farooq Abdullah in particular have voiced their concern over the BJP State President's decision to go for 48 hours long Satyagrah against JKCA scam and demanding resignation of Union Minister and CBI probe into the scam. These leaders have not only opposed the BJP president's decision of 48 hour fast against JKCA scam but also said it was not appropriate to single out one leader of ruling alliance while there were many more charges of corruption against Congress leaders. Sources said the two senior BJP leaders who wield much influence in the party had also persuaded State chief to give up his stand and take any other issue but Manhas and his supporters did not agree with the same. Sources said the duo, however, had advised their followers in the party to stay away from the fast and not participate in the protest launched by Manhas which was one reason that venue of Manhas''s fast at Dogra Chowk did not attract more partymen as was expected. Sources said that opposing the decision of BJP State chief the two party leaders had advised him that raising of removal of subsidy on LPG and stopping its home delivery besides hike in diesel prices as well as bringing of FDI in retail were more important issues which are directly linked to people while the JKCA scam is the talk of past. The two leaders instead of opposing NC or straining party relations with it have advised BJP State chief of bettering relations with the party to take on its arch rival Congress in the State in future, sources added. Sources said the duo have in categorical terms told Manhas that it was not NC but Congress which BJP has to fight out. However, not paying heed to their advise Manhas went ahead with his decision and managed to seek support of national leaders for the same who deputed Party national secretary Kirti Somia to Jammu to break Manhas's 48 hour fast this morning. It may be recalled that Somia had unearthed Defence land scam near Srinagar airport which surfaced during the NC-Congress coalition Government. Besides Manhas's decision brought those senior BJP leaders together in the party who were also opposed to NC tooth and nail and held its wrong policies responsible for the growing discrimination with Jammu and Ladakh regions and migration of over four lakh Hindus from Valley. |
