| Murtaza takes Rana, Chib head on; enters into heated argument with duo | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 4: Political Advisor to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Davinder Rana and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Murtaza Khan, today, entered into heated arguments with each other when former objected to the Minister for Sports and Medical Education for reading out a written reply to a question tabled by Dr. Bashir Veeri. The trouble started when Dr. Veeri, the mover, asked the chair that reply to his question should be treated as "read" but the Minister continued reading out the reply on another member GQ Pardesi's request. On this PDP MLC, M Ashraf Mir stood up from his seat saying that some important questions are listed and the Minister was unnecessarily stretching it longer despite the fact that the mover himself was satisfied in not reading out the written reply. Prior to Mir's intervention, Chairman of the Council Amrit Malhotra had also observed, "shall be treated as read", but Pardesi wanted that Minister should read out the reply. On this Murtaza Khan stood up and objected saying that the chair had made an observation and it was unfortunate that Minister has no respect for the chair. Khan alleged that the Minister want to show to the galleries that he speaks better English otherwise there was no fun in reading out the reply when the chair as well as the mover have observed that the reply shall be treated as read. When Minister continued his reply to the CQ, Khan shouted at him saying, " Mr. Minister you are in a habit of poking nose anywhere and everywhere, chair has already made the observation but you are unnecessarily stretching it far with an intention to not allow the listed questions to come up. On this MLC Davinder Rana shouted back at Khan accusing him of using derogatory remarks against the Minister who is also leader of the Upper House. It irate Khan who hit back at Rana saying that he was not Advisor to the House but somewhere else and that better he should go and give his advice there not in this House. Soon NPP legislator Ch. Rafiq Ahmad Khan joined the chorus followed by several other members from the treasury benches. PDP legislators, however, staged a walk out in protest against the Minister. Rana later on urged the chair that the derogatory words used by Khan against the Minister should be expunged from the business records. However, chairman said that he will first examine the words used by Khan. Rana further said that being Leader of the House the Minister (RS Chib) was within his rights to intervene wherever and whenever he deems it necessary. |
