| Observing Oct 27 as black day | | But do separatists really mean it? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 25: The instrument of accession was signed on October 26, 1947 by Maharaja Hari Singh at Jammu. It was accepted by Lord Mountbatten on behalf of the Indian union. The separatists contest this. According to them, the instrument was never signed. Once again, they have urged the people to observe accession day as a black day. Interestingly the commoner in Kashmir observes strike on October 27. But, the saner elements have started asking questions. Do they (Separatists) really consider it as a black day? People who have been denied travel documents for their proximity with militants and separatists expressed shock and surprise over issue of passports to former militant commanders and staunch `separatists'. They can go anywhere and the government of India does not object to their travel. Some of them even go to Pakistan frequently. While people are supposed to boycott the elections, a good number of them even want to join the electoral fray. At times they sponsor proxy candidates as well. Their meetings with main stream political leaders seeking party tickets are an open secret in Kashmir. Keeping or guarding a secret in Kashmir is almost impossible. People know who joined whom over a cup of tea in the sprawling lawns of five star hotels in the summer capital. They also come to know about the outcome of such meetings. They also know who got what from whom. They are fully aware of the fact that pseudo separatists call on senior police officials and clerks in the Home Ministry for petty favours. And yet they call themselves separatists and take the entire Valley hostage every now and then. Separatists, it has been observed, do not do anything on the ground. They hire a posh house in a posh locality and mail press notes to the press on a daily basis without fail. In these press notes they hold India responsible for almost everything that happens in Kashmir. The story does not end here. After issuing the press notes, they ensure that it is published sometimes by intimidation and at times by paying money. They never fail to call for strikes on January 26, August 15 and October 27. A senior political expert believes that the Jammu Kashmir conflict cannot be resolved unless the separatists believe in what they say. "The dichotomy has to end", he made clear. |
