| J&K "politicians" who did not have money to buy scooter now possess assets worth crores | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 25: Before they became MLAs and Ministers, some J&K politicians did not have money to buy even a scooter but now they have grown rich and possess assets worth crores. Apart from them, there is another set of "politicians" who are misusing their political connections to get works in PWD, PHE, UEED and Estates Department. For them, politics is a means of exploiting their connections to the fullest. They are the ones for whom politics does not mean serving their countrymen. Because of their self-centred policies, J&K people feel betrayed by them. They are also not happy due to the piling up of allegations of corruption against some Ministers in the State Accountability Commission (SAC). Some of these ministers belong to Congress. People had great hopes from the Congress stalwarts against whom complaints of corruption were pending with SAC, a senior J&K PCC leader said. "Before becoming Ministers, some of them did not have money to buy even a scooter but now they have grown rich and possess assets worth crores," he added. The PCC leader said to restore the party image in the State and enable it to face voters in the next Assembly polls, SAC probes into the allegations against its Ministers were must. The position of the State BJP was also not good. There was a growing resentment against it as people were feeling hurt by its "politics of deceit ", especially after the names of its seven MLAs (who now stand ousted from the party fold) had figured in the alleged "cash-for-vote" scam. The party had increased its tally of seats in Jammu region after the Bhum-Bhum Bholey agitation which was actually against NC and other Kashmir-based political parties which had opposed the transfer of land in Kashmir to Amarnath Shrine Board for raising temporary facilities for pilgrims. In the assembly elections held after the Amarnath land row, Jammuites elected BJP MLAs as they wanted them to play an effective opposition and fight against the alleged domination of Kashmir in the state affairs. However, instead of protecting their rights and working for their welfare, they brought a bad name to the party by getting involved in the alleged cash-for-vote scam. Not only this, a candid analysis of BJP in J&K shows that the party is riddled with internal bickerings and conspiracies. It is virtually turned into a divided house and may face a mutiny under the present circumstances. "Coterie politics", which has taken roots in the party, has weakened it (leaving the political mileage it got after Bhum-Bhum Bholay agitation), feel insiders.
