Omar gets his facts wrong
10/26/2012 12:41:19 AM
Early Times Report
srinagar, Oct 25: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has once again got his facts wrong, like the way he had done in the past.
In a statement issued by the Government, Chief Minister had said: " It should be the option of the consumer to obtain either subsidized or non-subsidized LPG cylinders as per his wish."
The Chief Minister missed the point that it's not the wish but the Government order that will decide how much subsidised.
The Government, read Centre, had made it categorically clear that it will give susbisidy on just six cylinders and if any State Government intends to give more then this than it would have to bear that additional cost of subsidy on its own.
Thus the State Government has failed to do so on its own,
The second point the Chief minister made about taking non-subsidised cylinders. The fact is, yes, there is no cap on them, but these can be taken only after the verification of the customer is done by the form called Know-Your-Customer, for which his government has extended the last date of its submission by Oct 31.
The CM heading the statement should have gone by the facts rather than issuing political rhetoric statement to appease people in Kashmir who have threatened to come on the streets on this issue.
Like in other parts of the country, the process has to be followed, and J&K can't take an exception by citing Art 370 or by playing up street slogans like: "Hum kya chahtayen hain .. Azaadi."
It's this sort of metal set up, allowed to nurture and prop up in the Valley, that rules are not followed.
The CM being a head of the State should have rather asked gas dealers to put in more man power to expedite the verification process, and in case of customers not having proper legal gas connection, a devise should be made so that they don't have to wait endlessly in long queues or rather being forced to shell out extras in black market.
The most noticeable point in the statement is that it has been issued after there is perceived public anger against shortage of LPG in Kashmir and for it he directed that there shouldn't be any shortage but protests in Jammu had started much before in Kashmir so possibly CM had then didn't check these facts.
