Congress party of "crooks", says Jethmalani
Gadkari Must Resign

JAMMU, Nov 21: Leading legal luminary and BJP member of Rajya Sabha Ram Jethmalani, who heads the controversial Kashmir Committee (KC) and is known for his friendly relations with Kashmiri separatists like Syed Ali Shah Geelani again demanded resignation of BJP national president Nitin Gadkari and termed the Indian National Congress of Sonia Gandhi as "a party of crooks". He reiterated his demand seeking resignation of Gadkari saying that there are serious charges of financial irregularities against him and that his continuation as BJP president even for a day would harm the interests of the party and undoubtedly weaken its movement against corruption and the "corrupt" Congress-led UPA Government.
Yesterday, another senior BJP leader and Lok Sabha MP and former Union Finance Minister and External Affairs Minister Yaswant Sinha also made common cause with Jethmalani and urged Gadkari to quit the party position saying his resignation has become imperative to reestablish the party's image and prove that it is, unlike the Congress, a party with a difference. He underscored the need for probity in public life. Stung by the Sinha's open attack on Gadkari, the BJP top leadership asked him to reconsider his stand in the larger interest of the party.
However, it needs to be emphasized that Jethmalani was more critical of the Congress party, especially Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, AICC president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and her son and AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi. He described the Congress as a "party of crooks" and expressed the view that it was extremely necessary to decimate the Congress party, ensure the fall of the Congress-led UPA Government, as it's involvement in corruption was neck-deep and create conditions conducive for the establishment of the BJP rule across the country. He snubbed his interviewer saying "don't compare the Congress with BJP", as the former was a party of crooks, who had no love lost for the country and were on a looting spree.
What Jethmalani said is what almost all the non-Congress formations believe in and say day-in and day-out. They, like Jethmalani, also want to throw the Congress lock, stock and barrel and want at the Centre non-Congress government. They term the Congress party and the Congress-dominated UPA Government as "most corrupt", "anti-people", anti-democratic", "arrogant", "insensitive", "pro-corporate houses", "pro-international trade mafia" and even "dangerous".
Not only most of the non-Congress formations despise the Congress party, but many non-political formations, including the one being led by social activist Anna Hazare, have also been expressing similar views as far as the Congress and the UPA Government are concerned. They express the view that the Congress is the mother of all ills and that it has ruined India politically, socially and economically. Still, however, the fact remains that it is Jethmalani who is one of the bitter critic of the Congress party.
Ironically, the no-holds-barred propaganda has not moved or reformed the Congress leadership and those controlling the UPA Government. They continue to pursue the policies which non-Congress formations and a vast majority of people dismiss with contempt. The next few days are likely to witness more scathing attacks on the Congress and the UPA Government both inside and outside the Parliament. The winter session of Parliament is commencing tomorrow, with many opposition parties, including the BJP, the Trinamool Congress and the Left parties already indicating their intention to corner the Congress and the UPA Government on each and every issue. The government could even collapse on the issue of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi brand retail trade, opine many political leaders. The fact is that the Congress and the UPA Government are in for attack from right and left.
