JAMMU, Nov 21: Forensic Science laboratory (FSL) has given Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) an important clue in the Narwal grenade blast case.
Sources in the FSL said that the grenade was of Chinese make and seemed to have been brought to Jammu from Srinagar in a box of fruits. They added that the grenade had not been thrown at the Munish wine shop from the road side but rolled down from the right side of the shop, exactly where the vegetable seller used to put up his Rehri.
The report was prepared based on evidences which included pin, hook of the grenade collected from the blast site, and intensity of the explosion. Since there was power cut, police sources said that grenade thrower escaped without being noticed. About suspects, police has traced the history of grenade blasts in Jammu city and found out that an earlier incident of grenade throw took place at the same spot in the year 1992.
Police sources said that a contact has been established with the officials who supervised the investigation then. The blast had been carried out then by terrorist working with Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF). Some suspects who have had some kind of affiliation with Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) have been rounded up while many others are under surveillance, said the police sources.
They maintained that KZF has been trying hard to revive its activities in Jammu region and in this process, is being aided and abetted by terror groups operating from Kashmir valley. Police sources said that Kashmir terror groups may have handed over Chinese grenade to some KZF man, who later carried out the blast or it could be the other way around. They maintained that case is likely to be cracked in the next few days.
Police sources said that after questioning scores of the surrended militants, they have reached this conclusion that it was terror strike. Taking the investigation further, police has reportedly prepared a list of Narwal fruit market based fruit sellers for questioning. Information is also being gathered about truck drivers who bring fruits from Srinagar to Jammu. Message to Srinagar police was also flashed to keep track on fruit sellers.
They have been told to lift suspects to get leads. Earlier, police investigation was on three angles which included rivalry, mischief act and terror strike. Meanwhile, after the incident, government has come out of deep slumber and is all set to install new CCTV cameras in Jammu district.
Police sources further said that process for installation of new CCTV cameras is likely to start in the next few days. Sources further said that about 37 CCTV cameras were installed in Jammu city and its outskirts. Of these, only two are functional. Police officials can be heard talking loudly that Narwal blast case could have been solved if the CCTV cameras were functioning properly.
Pertinently, suspected militants on Saturday evening hurled a grenade at Munish Wine shop in Narwal area in the winter capital, killing one person and injuring five others. Suspected militants hurled a grenade on Munish wine shop which exploded outside wine shop causing injuries to six persons of which one succumbed to injuries while being taken to hospital.
