Land acquisition process for 390 MW Kirthai-I power project underway

Kishtwar, Nov 21:- After pending for more than 10 years, District Administration Kishtwar finally set into motion the land acquisition process for construction of prestigious 390 MW Kirthai-I power project to be constructed in Padder tehsil of Kishtwar district.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Saleem Mohammad Chowdhary issued the direction to Collector Land Acquisition Kishtwar to notify the land measuring 462 Kanal 7 Marlas spread over three villages of Padder tehsil as was requested by the Executive Engineer Hydropower Project Kirthai-I wide letter No: HEP/K-I/Land Acq./136-38 dated 08-11-2012 in which Executive Engineer HEP Kirthaistage-I submitted the indent for acquisition of 462 Kanal and 7 Marlas land situated in village Gulabgarh (87 Kanal 13 Marlas), Kundal (42 Kanal 11 Marlas) and Atholi (332 Kanal 3 Marlas) required for construction of infrastructure for the said power project.
When contacted Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Saleem Mohammad Chowdhary said that necessary directions for acquisition of the identified land have been issued as was requested by J & K State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC), Government of Jammu and Kashmir received in his office through Executive Engineer Kirthai Hydropower Project Stage-I. He said that necessary direction has been issued to Collector Land Acquisition Kishtwar and Tehsildar Padder to notify the identified land required for the construction of the power project. He said that both revenue officials as well as officials from JKSPDC have already conducted the joint inspection of the land required by the Corporation for construction of the project and said that the target for completion of land acquisition process has been set by the administration as 6 months. He said that till May 2013, all the formalities related to land acquisition will be completed so that the work on this prestigious power project could be started at an earliest.
It is pertinent to mention here that JKSPDC has last month issued tender for pre bidding conference of Kirthai-I power project to be constructed at an approximate cost of nearly Rs. 3500 Cr. The project once start will accommodate nearly 5000 unemployed youths both skilled and unskilled. Second stage of the power project will also produce 390 MW power and will share the common dam with its Stage-I to be construct on river basin of Chandra near Kirthai village of Padder. Both the power projects are considered as cheapest in terms of cost and will be completed approximately in 4-5 years. As per the details nearly 2500 Kanals of land will be required for construction of both the stage of power project and the work on construction of 2nd stage of the power project could started only after the completion of Stage-I of the power project. The project is approachable by road and the government of Jammu and Kashmir has already started the widening of Kishtwar-Padder road so that the machinery for construction of 5 prestigious power projects viz Kwar (600 MW), Kirru (520 MW), Pakal-Dul (1000 MW), Kirthai I & II (390 MW each) could be shifted up to the construction point without any hindrance. All the 5 projects are connected by Kishtwar-Padder road.
