| MLC Polls: Div Com Jammu convenes meeting with representatives of political parties | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 22: In order to ensure smooth, fair and transparent conduct of ensuing Member Legislative Council (MLC) Election in Jammu province and to acquaint the political parties and candidates about the guidelines on Model Code of Conduct, the Divisional Commissioner Jammu (Returning Officer), Pradeep Gupta convened a meeting with candidates, election agents and representatives of the political parties here today. District Development Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Jammu Harcharan Singh were also present in the meeting. Giving details about the guidelines on the model code of conduct, the Divisional Commissioner said that the names of the candidates and election symbol are notified in alphabetical order in Urdu. He further clarified that there are 66 polling station in Jammu division and in each block headquarter there will be two polling stations for the constituencies of MLC (J-1) and MLC (J-2) for Jammu province. Gupta apprised the participants to refrain from activities which may create tensions or disturbance adding that religious institutions shall not be used as a forum for election propaganda. He asked candidates to seek permissions of the individual owners for erecting flag-staffs, suspending banners writing slogans and pasting notices at private properties All parties and candidates shall avoid offences under the election law, such as bribing ,impersonation or intimidation of voters canvassing within 100 meters radius of polling stations. For taking out any procession or conducting public meeting and use of loud speakers the candidate or political parties should inform the concerned police authorities about the venue and time enable them to make necessary arrangements for controlling traffic and maintaining law and order. Divisional Commissioner Jammu said that the identity slips supplied by political parties and candidates to the voters shall be on plain (White) paper and shall not contain any symbol, name of the candidate or party. He asked them to refrain from use of flags or buntings around the radius of 100 meters from station of the polling day and ensure that candidate's camp shall be simple and they should not display any poster symbols or any other propaganda material. Divisional Commissioner informed the meeting that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) would be utilize for the said election and preparations shall be made in the office of the Deputy Commissioner. Gupta further informed that polling is on 3rd December, 2012 and counting will be on December 6 at Government Polytechnic College, Bikram Chowk where Deputy Commissioner, Jammu and Samba (Assistant Returning Officers) will personally monitor the counting process under their supervision. He also informed that a Control Room (Election Cell) has also been set up with telephone No 2478994 besides each candidate should provide his/her specimen signature which would be further made available to the Presiding Officer. A Compact Disc (CD), Model Code of Conduct Booklet were also provided to the candidates and representatives of the political parties. |
