Srinagar, Nov. 22: Even as the Apex Court of the country has been taking cognizance of the difficulties of lakhs of pilgrims and reminding the J&K government what it requires to do immediately, the latter is projecting itself completely in denial mode . While SC has already given directions on making the route permanent besides augmenting facilities on it, on Thursday it once again asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to pave the passage from Panchtarni to Amarnath cave with pre-fabricated cement tiles to ensure that pilgrims do not slip on the way. The government as always negating itself over the issue for political reasons, responded to fresh direction with denial, this time its Forest Minister contending he was not aware of any such decision.
A bench of justices B S Chauhan and Swatanter Kumar also said that side support too be provided for the pilgrims.
"You have to put something so that people do not slip. Pre-fabricated cement tiles must be placed all through the passage from Panchtarni to cave," a national News agency quoted the bench as having said.
According to reports, the bench also said that some sort of iron chain or pillar be also put in place to give support to the pilgrims and to prevent them from falling into sideways abyss and ditches.
The court was hearing the case after it took suo motto cognizance of media reports on pilgrims' deaths allegedly due to lack of proper facilities and medical care for them.
The apex court had earlier appointed a high-power committee to look into the issue of growing number of casualties of Amarnath pilgrims, which had earlier submitted its report to the Supreme court.
However, the government response was both surprising and shocking. State Forest Minster Mian Altaf Ahmad simply refused to comment on the ruling, saying he does not know anything about the fresh directions.
" I haven't received any information regarding such direction. Let the order come if at all it is, only then I can comment on this", Mian told KNS on Thursday evening.
The office report on the case reads, "It is submitted that pursuant to above Order, Ms. Rani Chhabra, Advocate has on 19.11.2012 filed additional sugestions on behalf of Shiv Seva Samiti in Interlocutory Application No. 3 (Application for Impleadment) with permission of the Hon'ble Court but he has not served the copy upon Mr. Mishra Sourabh and Mr. Sunil Fernandes, Advocates. However, the same is being circulated before the Hon'ble Court".
"It is submitted that Mr. Sunil Fernandes, Advocate has on 19.11.2012 filed Compliance Affidavit on behalf of State of Jammu & Kashmir with permission of the Hon'ble Court and the same is being circulated before the Hon'ble Court", the report adds.
Meanwhile, as per the orders issued today, the bench has listed the case for 5th December, 2013 at 2.00 p.m for further hearing.
