Congress to benefit from growing NC-PDP tussle in J&K
11/22/2012 11:15:05 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 22 : The tussle between the National Conference and the PDP has assumed new dimensions with each side awaiting the degeneration of each other. While the NC leaders predict complete disintegration of the PDP bfore the next Assembly poll due in 2014, the PDP leaders foresee an immediate fall for the National Conference.
The NC President and union Minister,Farooq Abdullah,is said to have been unnerved by gradual rise of the PDP that he has started "denigrading"it by accusing the Muftis of having been paid by Delhi for finishing the National Conference.
Field reports have indicated that the Congress leadership in Jammu and Kashmir feels elated over the growing confrontation between the National Conference and the PDP because as long as the PDP and the NC keep on fighting the Congress will continue to get an opportunity to be the Government maker.
Sources in the state unit of the Congress said that indications are that neither he PDP nor the NC would be able to get even simple majority in the Assembly during the next election and that would leave open wide chance for the Congress to decide whether to share power with the PDP or with the NC.
According to these sources, it was because of this tussle between the NC and the PDP that the Congress, which had won 20 Assembly seats in 2002 elections, formed the Government in alliance with the PDP,which had bagged only 16 seats against 28 won b y the NC. They said even with 15 Assembly seats the Congress formed the Government in alliance with the NC in 2008-2009.
They said that the Congress is likely to repeat the experiment after the next Assembly poll and its choice on forming the Government either with the PDP or with the NC depended on the number of Assembly seats the two win. They said that judged by the exchange of vituperatives between the chances for a reconciliation or for alliance bet ween the PDP and the NC were very bleak allowing the Congress the upper hand in the Government formation.
