| Let Congress undo wrongs done under UPA rule | | | Hitherto India has been described as a land of saints and sufis.A land of multi-religious and multi-lingual society.A land having massive population next to China.A land of religious tolerance where people have been leading a simple life. However, all these adjectives seem to have been eclipsed by the rise of series of scams which have caused enormous loss to the country's exchequer. After the infamous Bofors scam the country has been hit by 2G spectrum scam and other scams related to it.Political leaders, who were alleged to have been involved in these scams were arrested, later released on bail.Cases of corruption continue to pile up even against those who matter in the central Government and several other state Governments. While the country was yet to come out of the shock of 2G spectrum a number of states were rattled and rocked by enormous losses to the Governments on account of illegal mining.Allegations and counter allegations have further soiled the atmosphere in the country but not a single minister or senior political leader or a bureaucrat, suspected to be involved in these scams, have so far resigned on moral grounds. Each one among them were trying to fight a losing battle. While the dust on 2G scams and the coalgate was yet to settle the country was swept by a number of social activists, including Arvind Kejrewal, who exposed number of scams from Maharashtra to Haryana.Kejrewal did not even spare the BJP chief,Nitin Gadhkari. These whistle blowers attacked shady deals of Robert Vadra,son-in-law of AICC Chief,Sonia Gandhi,Sharad Pawar, union Minister for Agriculture, and otheer political bigwigs. They even accused Har yana Chief Minister,Bhupinder Singh Hooda, for shielding Vadra and putting a lid on his shady deals by transferring a senior IAS officer Ashok Khemka, who had initiated action against Vadra's land deals. In between cropped the controversy of irregularities having been allegedly committed by the Union Law Minister,Salman Khurshid.Khurshid was so much agitated by Kejriwal that he threatened the social activist of dire consequences if he attempted at entering into his (Salman's) constituency. What was a positive sign was that all those, except Robert Vadra, voiced their views on the issues.Gadhkari,Pawar,Khurshid and others denied their involvement in any irregularity. At the same time what is intriguing is the way Vadra preferred to remain silent and the Congress leadership turned down the demand for holding a probe into Vadra's land deal. The land of saints and sufis has turned into a land of scams. Whether the allegations levelled by the whistle blowers are correct or baseless all the top political leaders, besides the Congress, should have welcomed the demand for a thorough probe. It is an established fact that those who reject the demand for a probe into certain allegations of misappropriation of funds or misuse of their official position for amassing wealth and immovable assets are seen as the real culprits.Another shocking scene relates to the way the Congress spokesman,Rashid Alvi, rejected the demand for holding a probe into Robert Vadra's land deals.Did it suit the Congress spokesman to reject the demand for probe against Vadra, who is not a Congress leader.By virtue of being the son-in-law of Sonia Gandhi Vadra cannot claim to be a congressite.Political morality demanded that the Congress should have accepted the demand for a probe into the land deals of Vadra.By rejecting the demand for a probe and by transferring a senior IAS officer who had initiated action against Vadra's land deals the Congress has brought Sonia's son in law in the firing range of the whistle blowers. Now that the next general elections in India are due after two years it is time for the Congress to set its house in order by undoing all the wrongs that have been committed under the UPA rule. |
