MANNU Hyderabad, SKUAST Kashmir reach knock-out stages

JAMMU, Nov 28: Host University of Jammu (JU) shall take on Himachal Pradesh (HP) University Shimla in the quarterfinals, scheduled for November 30, in the ongoing All India Vice Chancellor's Twenty20 Cup Cricket Tournament, here.
Earlier, HP University finished second in group-C with MANUU University got the top position on the basis of points earned in the league round. From group-B, Kashmir University and University of Pune have qualified for the knock-out stages.
However, group-D is yet to get its second qualifier for the quarterfinals with SKUAST Kashmir already through. The outcome of tomorrow's last league tie of group-D between Delhi University Delhi and MDS University Ajmer shall decide the fate of the second team. Earlier, in today's league matches, PU Ludhiana defeated IGNOU Delhi by 16 runs. Batting first, PU Ludhiana set a target of 131 runs for five, which, in reply, IGNOU could not chase and completed their 20 overs for 115 runs losing nine wickets. Harish, who played match winning innings of 60 runs, was declared man of the match. Meanwhile, in another league tie, Kashmir University inflicted a humiliating defeat on DDU Gorakhpur beating latter by 115 runs. Batting first, KU set a challenging target of 198 runs, courtesy 88 (off 61 balls, 3x6, 10x4) runs innings played by Mudassir. Shahnawaz also played well contributing valuable 55 runs.
In reply, DDU Gorakhpur bowled out cheaply for 42 runs in 11.2 overs. Parvez Parry was most successful bowler from KU with four wickets while Ghulam took three. For his splendid knock of 88 runs, Mudassir was declared man of the match.
In another league match of the day, SKUAST Jammu defeated Mumbai University by 49 runs. But despite their win, SKUAST could not qualify for the knock-out stages.
Earlier, batting first, SKUAST made 147 runs for seven with Shamshudin adding highest 29-ball 40 runs. Manjeet Singh, Mohd Razak and Naresh contributed 21 runs each. From Mumbai, Chanderkant, Sanjay Pawar and Shrikant shared two wickets each. Later, Mumbai could not attain the goal playing full 20 overs for 98 runs with last wicket in hand. Attaullah Khan remained top scorer with 30 runs. From SKUAST Jammu, Rakesh, Anoop Sharma and Shamshudin took two wickets each. Shamshudin was declared man of the match.
