Paharis vow to fight for ST status

Jammu, Dec 2: With their population of over 30 lakh, Paharis living in different parts of the state have said in a statement that they would revolt through their power of vote if the NC-Congress coalition did not fulfill its promise of ST status to them.
The statement also said at present there are more than eighty thousand educated Pahari youths while over two lakh of them are pursuing education in various disciplines and subjects. This was stated in a press conference organized under the Leadership of M.A.Sagar, provincial president of the forum and Vijay Kochhar provincial Gen. Secretary. Both These leaders appealed to the people of Pahari Community to be united to launch a united struggle under an Umbrella Organization of Jammu Kashmir Pahari Cultural and Welfare Forum. They also appealed to all Pahari politicians to leave their political affiliations for the cause of the community. in a joint press statement state president pahari student union and chief executive (JKPPM) Shahbaz khan and state president Pahari student union Ab.Qadir khan said Paharis are striving for ST status for the last more than 30 years.
Khan said Pahari youth must launch peaceful struggle against the discrimination meted out to them for more than 30 year. He said P ahari Community was on the top of Seven 7. Tribe list recommended by the state Govt. to center for ST status in 1989, but anti-Pahari elements had misguided the central leadership. In the convention, it was decided to launch mass people contact in order to defeat the coalition partners in the assembly elections. "We have decided to teach them a lesson so that in future these parties would not play with our sentiments", President of JKPPM Amjad Ali said adding that they will wait for few more months and if some concrete step is not taken, they can go to any extent in future.
Ashwani Datta Secretary said that some politicians who pose themselves as Pahari leades have damaged and made the Advisory Board defunct for their vested and political interests.
