| Opposition doubts fairness of LC Polls | | Alleges manipulation by govt | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 2: Though the stage is set for holding the elections to four MLC seats under Panchyat quota tomorrow the ruling coalition is facing wild allegations of violating Model Code of conduct. All the opposition parties including Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Panthers Party have levelled serious allegations against the coalition for violating the code of conduct and misusing the official machinery. All these parties have even brought the matter in the notice of Election Commission seeking action against the coalition. The PDP alleged that NC men were alluring the sarpanchs and panchs to seek their vote in entire state. The same allegation has been made by the BJP and NPP also. The BJP leaders alleged that coalition ministers and legislators are violating code of conduct by making inaugurations of bridges, health centres and other offices in remote and far flung areas during campaigning to lure the panchs and sarpanchs. Moreover the official machinery is totally being misused by ministers who used siren vehicles and escorts during campaigning and even the functions are organised by education department in which school children were given bags and books in Inderwal area by the MLA G M Saroori during the campaigning few days back. This allegation was levelled by BJP National Executive Member and MLA Ashok Khajuria who also accused the NC Ministers, R S Chib, Devender Singh Rana and Aijaz Ahmed Khan of openly violating code of conduct and misusing official machinery. Khajuria has said the Gram Sevaks and BDOs were also engaged in election campaigning. Likewise in Kashmir Valley the NC Ministers also in open violation of code of conduct were making announcements, allured the sarpanchs and panchs and seeking support of Gram sevaks and BDOs in campaigning. The coalition ministers visited remotest areas where they would have not visited during the last four years of the Government to lure the Panchs and Sarpanchs alleged PDP spokesman. The coalition which has made winning the election a prestigious point are leaving no stone unturned to outwit the opposition as the MLCs elections is a matter of do or die for both Congress and NC. The spokesman said that both coalition partners leaving the Moral code of conduct in dustbin will try every thing possible to rig the polls in which both of them have attained mastery since fifties. The unholy alliance seeking support from expelled BJP MLAs reveals the level to which NC leadership will stoop, the spokesman added. |
