| Despite winter vacation Pvt schools remain open | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Dec 2: In brazen violation of government orders, the primary and middle departments in some private schools in the Srinagar City remained opened even on Sunday today despite the fact that state government had on November 30 announced the winter vacations in schools across Kashmir valley. Despite government's order to keep schools closed in the Kashmir valley for the winter vacations, several private schools in Srinagar district remained open even on Sunday. The administrators of these schools says the decision to close was issued at 'a short notice'. The state government on Nov30 asked to close down all schools in the Valley for winter vaccations. However, some private schools in Srinagar and adjoining areas are keeping all the classes running including kindergarten and nursery batches. "The students are going to be home for the next three months and we had not even assigned them the syllabus to be covered during this period. We will close our school from next week after completing this exercise," a teacher in central Kashmir said on anonymity. The government while ordering closure of schools up to VIII class on November 30 had warned of strict action against those who failed to comply with the orders. The academic session in Kashmir starts in October-November and schools close for two-and-half-month. But these extra classes in this bitter cold are putting the health of our children at risk, a parent said. "It seems the managements of private schools have a parallel directorate, which decides their academic calendar. Despite strict warnings from the government, they don't abide," said another parent. "These private schools should be derecognized," he said adding that all this is happening in the city which happens to be the capital of the state. Yet another parent said that these private schools have in fact realized transportation charges for the month of December from the students of primary department and now by keeping school open for some more days gives is to justify the same. When contacted Director Education Kashmir, M Shafi Rather said that he has not received any such complaint. "if parents send a complaint, we will definitely look into it" Rather told Early Times. |
